5>>~~ BETTA BUYA BRIKKA ~~<<Aug 15, 2010
I was looking for an espresso maker - reviews said spend so much on the maker and so much on the grinder - ouch!!
I tried Nespresso - all the pods contain the same amount of caffeine, how? The pods are tiny compared to an espresso makers amount - it this really a fancy instant coffee??
I liked the look of gigantic Gaggia machines but really - be sensible Bruce!!
A neighbour said just try this coffee - crema on top, strong and tasty, almost like good coffee shop coffee - I loved it - what made it??? A Brikka, a what??
He showed me and I was sold. A machine that doesn't waste time boiling milk - great as all I want is black coffee.
As long as you use good coffee, kept sealed in the fridge - you can drink great coffee at an affordable price using technology that we can understand.
Capsule machines are "black box technology" - you put in a capsule containing something like coffee and a drink something like coffee appears.
Get a Brikka and make great coffee at a great price - and you just buy Espresso ground coffee at any good shop - I prefer Lavazza - no expensive grinder in the cupboard.
It's quick, easy, affordable and it smells good as you make it.
I use the 4 cup for a "big" cup or I split it so my wife can have a medium strength Americano and I have an Espresso cup of smashing coffee - I'm drinking one now - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

4Work out the kinks and it's greatJun 12, 2010
I was pulling out my hair initially with my 4-cup Brikka. It constantly leaked while brewing, no matter how tightly I screwed it together, and generally made a mess all over the stove. Then a Bialeti sales person told me to grind down the burrs on the threads by twisting the top and bottom pieces together repeatedly, back and forth, back and forth. This wore down the rough threads, and the machine now screws together WAY more smoothly and leaks way less. Kind of a maddening product, though. They really need to re-machine the thing.

52-cup Brikka Perfect for Coffee Household of 1May 29, 2010
Coffee brewing devices owned: Mocamaster, French Press, Moka Pot, and 2-cup Brikka.

Beans used for Brikka: Illy Espresso Grind(I know I should use Moka, but I can't find it in my local stores)and Decaf.

Accessories: Bodumn double walled glass, Aero wand (for lattes), or a simple espresso cup.

The Brikka is by far and away my favorite way to make a cup of caffeine. There is something about the ritual that is very relaxing and I also find it rewarding when I do get a nice layer of "crema" on the top. The downside is that when I have family in town that drinks coffee that the 2-cup Brikka is really only good for one shot of espresso. When this happens I bring out the mocamaster and create the smoothest cup of coffee an electric appliance can make.

There are plenty of videos on You Tube that show you how to use the Brikka, but let me tell you that it is just about as easy as it seems. It might be harder if you are trying to grind your own beans, but the Illy does the trick for me. If you are looking to try something fun that is regarded in the coffee world as the most consistent thing next to a $10k machine, then take the plunge and try a Brikka. I also recommend getting some Illy decaf, as it seems to be ground better for the Brikka and will satisfy you desire to keep practicing into the evening.

5Brikka makes a nice espressoMar 30, 2010
The Bialetti Brikka is a definite step up from the smaller, no-name stove top espresso maker I had been using. I really enjoy the fact that it produces crema, although I've found that to preserve the crema (which froths out before the espresso itself in the brewing process) I need to pour the crema into my cup immediately, then pour the espresso in after. If I let the crema stay in the Brikka while the espresso finishes brewing, the crema will dissolve into the espresso.

The Brikka makes 4 tiny espresso shots or 2 good-sized shots. You'll definitely want to follow the instructions pretty carefully - use the little cup provided to measure the water until you are familiar with how much to use, and don't pack the coffee in too tight - as others have noted, no good will come of it! I found that the Cafe Bustelo that others here recommended just wasn't strong enough for me. I'm a fan of Starbucks Vienna, a few clicks back from espresso ground, which is too fine.

I really like that the handle is arched away from the pot - if you heat on a medium low flame, the handle doesn't get too hot, and you don't risk burning your knuckles on the pot itself. Comes apart easily for cleaning and looks squat and business-like! Clear cover is a rather dysfunctional element, as it steams up when in use so you can't see through it. However, the way this pot is made, with the disc for making crema, you can actually open the lid while the espresso is brewing to see if it's done, and your brew won't splurt all over the place as with other espresso makers!

1Coffee explodes out of potFeb 21, 2010
GREAT - For lazy afternoons spent tinkering with coffee.

BAD - For the morning get you going for the day first cup of coffee.

We received our Brikka yesterday anxious to try the coffee from this coffee maker.
While the coffee is (very, very) good, we had a less than pleasant experience. First of all, we purchased the four cup larger model because we want a cup of coffee, not just an expresso shot.

This pot does not make four cups, it does not even make one. The result means you have to do the process which takes about 4 minutes each time, over and over to get even 2 cups of coffee. We had a Saeco Magic Plus we have been enjoying for the last 8 years, which changed the way we rated and enjoyed coffee. That machine was a joy and also made great coffee, but it finally died and being a very expensive machine we decided to look around.

My husband did exhaustive research looking for a replacement. He said his research indicated that this Brikka was rated the best for coffee with "crema" and it was a lot less expensive than another Saeco superautomatic. What his research did not tell us what that this coffee pot is a "pain in the butt" to use.

We have already had it explode coffee all over our stove three times. It's quite laughable after you get it all cleaned up and get another cup made and finally have a cup of coffee. I think this would make a great sitcom skit.
Seriously, this is not a great design for a coffee machine.

You literally have to watch this coffee pot because if you do not get it off the stove and pour it immediately into your cup, the pot will pour the coffee all over your stove. Note : We are at an elevation of 7500ft in the Rockie's, so maybe our elevation, and the change in boiling point is effecting it. Who knows....

My husband stands there and as soon as the coffee makes "the sound" indicating it is ready he runs to get it and pout it into a cup before it explodes all over. What a pain. This can't last long before we tire of catering to the coffee pot. My husband even went back to reviews and the instructions to ensure we were "doing it right" only to find that this machine is cantankerous.

If you put even an 1/8 of a teaspoon too much water or leave it on the stove for a few seconds too long, this explosion of coffee will be the result. Then you must start Over... NOT COOL
