the long search has ended.Aug 12, 2010 I am an avid coffe drinker, have been for most of my fifty some odd years. and i have tried a lot of different coffees and coffee machines in my time. I had an older version of this model for years which meant it did not have any timer control. it was pretty basic but made great tasting coffee, no plastic or metalic after tastes. and it made the coffee in record time. but when this machine finally broke down after years of dependable service i was forced to try a replacement and i tried at least five different brands of machines like mr. coffee and krupps etc. most made it diffcult just to make a decent cup of coffee with all there fancy gadgets and props, but the machines where slow and the coffee tasted like sewage. until i found the braun kf580 a desendend of my old coffee machine and at a very resonable price. needless to say i am back in coffee heaven. and to make sure i stay there i bought another as a back up with the replaceable filter cartridges ( which i change every six months and i use my machine every day). the coffee basket swings out at the touch of a button to replace the coffee filter or easily detaches if you wish to wash it and the water tank has a very large opening to add water without spilling it all over, also the coffee pot lid is attached to the pot so you don't have pull it off to fill just press the lever at the back of the lid to flip it up and fill.
so you don't have spend a lot of money for a machine with alot of fancy gadgets bells and whistles. if you want a simple basic machine that makes fantastic tasting coffee in record time this is the way to go.Braun KF580 AromaDeluxe 10-Cup TimeControl Coffemaker, White
Coddle your Braun if yours still works & you like its coffee!Aug 11, 2010 Just thought I'd share a note here: I have this but without the programming features. I've been sold on the taste of coffee in these makers (because of the Brita water filter) for years. But, after the first cup, the coffee in the glass carafe stays too hot, making the rest turn bitter. Hence, I wanted one with a thermal carafe (the Braun KF600). Alas, 'twas not to be. I called Braun and discovered they no longer make coffee makers at all.
The reviews of the other two top rated thermal coffee makers: Zojirushi EC-BD15BA EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker and Cuisinart DCC-1150BK 10-Cup Programmable Thermal Coffeemaker, Black are so inconsistent (quality control problems overseas, I think), I decided to research thermal carafes instead. I chose the pricey but highly rated at Cooks Illustrated thermal carafe: Thermos Nissan 51-Ounce Stainless-Steel Carafe and now I just transfer the delicious fresh coffee from the Braun into it, and it's a terrific, if annoying-to-have-to-make compromise. The Braun-water-filtered coffee stays hot and delicious for hours.
Seems like it's too hard to manage quality control with cheap overseas labor in the production of these coffee makers. There are simply none that get consistently good reviews. Many engineer-types happily report in with their list of instructions on how to make the frigging machine work properly. Sheesh! This should not be necessary! Just another 'woe are we' story about the disappearance of decent quality products. Sigh.

good coffee maker, pot breaks easilyAug 06, 2010 It is a good coffee maker. I've owned it for a few years and it works great. It makes good coffee, looks cute...... but, I'm ordering my 3rd pot today. Somehow the pot breaks easily and I just keep breaking it. And the replacement is soooo expensive, about $25. :(
Great coffee maker, not a gaudy behemothJul 19, 2010 The Braun KF580 is a wonderful ooffeemaker. It has an automatic shutoff mechanicism that allows shutoff at any time between 20 miuntes and 2 hours. It has a "fill gauge" that enables the exact amount of water. Every part can be cleaned. It makes great coffee, has a streamlined design, and is relatively small and compact--not like the gaudy behemoths that recently have come out.
Braun KF580Jul 15, 2010 Purchased the Braun KF580 coffee maker and I am thoroughly please with it. I especially like the shut off timer.
