4Still makes good espresso after 5 yrsAug 25, 2010
This has been my first espresso machine. It's still working after 5 years of use, and I use it once or more per day. I've had a problem with a drip from the steamer for a long time, but I just deal with it by placing a small cup under the steamer. Once I had to replace the part for the steamer valve because the valve was wore out, but it works fine with the new part. It lately has been dripping from the brew head, but for constant use and after five years I still make a really good espresso with this machine. I'm going to just order some new parts and keep it going for as long as possible. Why replace it when I still get great crema? It's a dependable little machine. I just recently bought a little DeLonghi machine for my boyfriend's house and it doesn't make the crema at all like this machine does.

5Wow just a great work horseAug 18, 2010
This Espresso machine just keeps on chugging. This is a great value for getting a resonably priced pump machine that is reliable. Just love it!!

5Good MorningAug 29, 2009
This Briel Espresso Machine makes my mornings so much easier; I just push the button and the water starts to heat. I fill coffee grounds, then tap them down with the built-in tapper before putting it where it belongs to allow the espresso to flow. I gratefully recommend this machine. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004RHQA/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title

4Good buy - Used one for years!May 19, 2009
I've had the Chamonix for a few years. I make a Mocha just about every day. The Chamonix is easy to use, makes good espresso in about 20sec. and is easy to clean. Water reservoir holds a good amount. Love it generally, but there are a few things to keep in mind.
1) The quantity of espresso output is not consistent. Part of the reason could be that it is affected by other devices in the circuit (microwave, etc) but sometimes it just over or under does it. The variance is up to 1/4 cup when making a double espresso.
2) The inner basket (specifically the double) will twist in the basket holder and get stuck and will either stay attached to the machine or need to be pried out of the holder.
3) The Anti-drip mechanism worked great initially, but somewhere along the way has failed and I have to clean the drip tray more often.
I still recommend the machine and am happy that I bought one. This has, for the most part, stood up to the test of time and usage.

5Love this machine- 8 years and runs like new!Mar 08, 2009
I bought this machine 8 years ago for my husband, who drinks espresso about 4 times daily. We have never had a problem with it. Initially, it does take a little getting used to (like any espresso machine), but once you know how to use it, it consistently makes perfect espresso. My husband and I travel to Europe at least once a year and the espresso the Chamonix makes is comparable. It is difficult to find the parts, but once you find the order form (online or by calling Briel), then it's a piece of cake to order them. We've had to replace the filter twice. Ours came with a 10 year pump warranty but I'm not sure if they offer that anymore. Otherwise, we love this machine and recommend it to anyone who wants a pump-driven espresso machine at a great price.
