WORST ESPRESSO MACHINE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!Jul 24, 2010 I and my wife bought this machine expecting to get a descent espresso from it, but what we got was something that looked like tinted water, and tasted just how it looked.
First problem you notice right away is the fact that you have to use doll house tea cups to even fit under the spouts. I mean I am not sure who decided to roll out this design but it makes it seem like the espresso version of an easy bake oven.
The next thing I noticed was that the stream this thing releases from the spout is a laughable drizzle. It took me so long to even get a descent baby tea cup full of espresso that I was falling asleep at the machine. God forbid you are trying to make you and your wife a cup, or friends, everyone would probably just give up and go buy a cup (I mean that would be bigger and less hassle).
The next problem came when I attempted to froth some milk, HAHAHAHAHA, I pulled out the frothing handle just to find, at best, a regular coffee mug was all that could fit under here, and that was assuming you raised the unit on a box.
Taking this one step forward not only are the cups small but you can only make 2 of those little doll tea cups of it. Worst yet is that by the time you are so frustrated and ready to throw this horrible piece of garbage to the ground you assume maybe the flavor will be worth it then it hits your mouth and the flavor is just as bad as the experience you get making it. Not to mention the freaking handle that holds the filter almost requires vice grips to get it twisted in.
People save your money and buy a better more expensive machine this is just not worth it, unless you are a person that has never had a descent cup of espresso. I give this one star, and if I could give it less I would
Failed in 6 months!!Jul 19, 2010 This machine worked okay for 6 months. Then the pump broke down. I went back to my old Mr. Coffee espresso maker. It actually froths better than the Hamilton. I bought the Hamilton because I could make two espressos at the same time. And I could make several batches without refilling the water reservoir.
Good bang for buckMar 11, 2010 Overall I am very happy with this product. I bought it as a gift for my girlfriend, but I think I've used it more than she has (self-serving gift?). I haven't gotten it to produce great creme yet, but we also don't have a grinder so we've been forced to let starbucks do all our grinding for us. I think if we had a grinder we could experiment with different levels of coarseness and fineness of the grounds and probably get decent creme. This is not an amazing machine, and some parts do feel a little cheap, but then again, the machine was cheap. A great deal for the price. I recommend it.
Great Cappacino,LattesMar 09, 2010 I've had this Hamilton Beach Cappacino Espresso maker for about 6 years my husband bought it for me for Christmas 6 Christmases ago. Anyways It still works good but takes a little longer for the water to get hot so I try and wait for it to reheat a second time only because its 6 year old. I never figured out the Frothing nozzle how to work it until last year, Now Im a pro at making Froth. I use Starbucks Ground traditional French Roast for Cappacino and it makes me really love to make Cappacino. I believe the only flaw is to find cups that will fit underneath the Brew head I normally remove the Silver cup holder tray but keep the black one so I can use bigger cups. It makes coffee just right much better than going to a coffee shop to have it brewed. Although I love Starbucks coffee going to a coffee shop is a treat. I've also used freshly ground Coffee from Starbucks its much better but sometimes I don't have time to go to Starbucks so I buy the one Starbucks in the store. I've used Pods Senseo those work good in this Hamilton Beach Espresso Cappacino Maker, Its also easy to clean and I use a butter knife to pry the grounds out of the coffee filter head.
Doesn't make enough espresso at a time. Leaked water. Only warm espresso.Feb 06, 2010 The first disappointment with this machine is that it can only make one or two shots of espresso. Basically two espresso cups - total of about 3 ounces. The espresso it makes is not as strong as I like and it was warm, not hot enough. You need to warm up the cups before making espresso to be sure that your espresso stays warm while you steam the milk.
I had previously used a Krups steam espresso maker which was a four cup - 6 ounces, and a 6 cup stove top espresso maker (moka pot) which makes 9 ounces. It appears that nearly all pump machines in this price range make less espresso than cheaper steam machines. It may be enough for you, but if you want to enjoy an espresso or a latte with a spouse or friend it takes longer with this machine than steam machines or moka pots.
This unit doesn't come with a carafe like most steam machines. It is also hard to get the frothing pitcher under the steam nozzle. I put it on a thick wooden cutting board to get around that problem.
I used this machine for about a week then it started leaking water. I think I may have caused it by tamping the espresso too tight - in order to get it to hold more to make it strong enough. Tamping the espresso too tight will cause too much pressure to build up.
I returned it and purchased a new stainless steel stove top espresso maker. They are available in 4 to 10 cup versions.
What you don't get with a stove top espresso maker is ability to steam milk. There are several solutions. Use the Aerolatte Milk Frother, Satin Finish or the Bodum Chambord 5-Ounce Milk Frother
You won't get crema with a stove top or steam espresso maker, however other reviews for this machine have reported this one doesn't produce crema. After using this machine a couple of times the crema isn't worth the hassle and the taste isn't that much different.
